TSS Sedimentation in POME

Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) typically contains about 3% Total Suspended Solids (TSS), which settle at the bottom of young treatment ponds over time. These solids come from organic residues in the milling process and can build up, reducing the pond’s capacity and efficiency. Regular desludging helps keep the treatment system working properly, prevents excessive sludge accumulation, and ensures compliance with environmental regulations.

If sludge is not removed, several problems can occur:

  • Less Pond Capacity – Sludge buildup takes up space, reducing how much wastewater the pond can treat.

  • Poor Treatment Performance – Too much sludge can interfere with microbial activity, leading to incomplete waste breakdown and higher pollution levels in discharged water.

Multi-Disc Screw for POME Desludging

Our MDS-514 screw press is designed to overcome these issues. Unlike conventional desludging methods, our system operates continuously, ensuring efficient sludge removal without disrupting pond operations. It also allows for better solid handling, preventing the need to deal with massive sludge volumes. This results in a more efficient, controlled, and cost-effective desludging process.

Over 60+ units installed in Malaysia

Process Flexibility

Our screw presses are designed for operational flexibility, allowing to optimize either solid removal efficiency or polymer dosing ratio.

High Efficiency

Our system achieves up to 90% efficiency in solid removal and BOD reduction.

High throughput

Our screw presses are the largest on the market, with a single unit capable of handling effluent from a 60-ton mill.

Low Polymer Usage

Our system ensures efficient polymer usage, requiring less than 1 kg of polymer per ton of wet solids.

Automation

Our system is fully automated and requires only one operator to run efficiently.

Lower moisture content

Our sludge output has around 82% moisture, ensuring easier handling and transportation.

Polymer Use in Screw Press Systems

In most sludge dewatering processes, polymers are essential for efficiently separating solids from liquids. The right polymer can significantly improve system performance and overall throughput.
